Unbounded creativity is the crucial quality for a career in interior design, but equally important are experience and qualifications. Most designers have a bachelor’s, if not a master’s degree. You can boost your interior design career without going back to school full time by earning an online degree.
Why Does An Interior Designer Need A Degree?
According to the American Society of Interior Designers, an appropriate degree is increasingly important within the profession. This is because the field of interior design is becoming more and more regulated.
- At the present time 25 states and jurisdictions require interior designers to be licensed before they can practice.
- In some states you will not be able to even describe yourself as an interior designer unless you attained a certain level of accredited education. Sometimes this involves passing the qualifying examination administered by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification.
Earning an Online Interior Design Degree
The main benefit of studying with an online interior design school is that you can fit your studying around other commitments, like a job or family.
Before you sign up for an interior design program however, check whether the school is accredited with the Foundation for Interior Design Education and Research (FIDER), since some states will only recognize interior design qualifications granted by FIDER-accredited schools.
