Showing one or two semesters of study abroad on your resume is also a plus for future employers.

Some International Locations Boast Great Interior Design Programs

Here are some locations where many schools commonly offer interior design programs. They are sure to offer an exciting backdrop to your interior design study:

  • London Due to its proximity to the US, many London design schools have partnered with US schools to offer study abroad programs for students from both the US and England. London is also a great place to do some job networking, as many design firms have offices in both places.
  • Paris Known as one of the premier sites for art and design across the world, the city of lights is home to a number of major interior design programs. Don’t let the language barrier discourage you; you will have guides and translators to make sure you don’t miss a beat.
  • Tokyo Tokyo’s immense population creates design challenges specific to the city and region, offering study abroad students a unique look at how a different culture uses design functionally as well as artistically.

Make it Work

Financial aid and scholarships are often available, and don’t forget interior design contests in your area; they sometimes reward in cash or scholarships. Complete some of your interior design study at an international program; you will thank yourself later as you set yourself apart from other designers.
