The interior decorating magazines that fill America’s mailboxes have inspired a slew of wannabe home designers. These glossy interior decorating magazines offer gorgeous pictures of decked-out rooms, enticing readers to spend thousands of dollars to make their home look just like the picture. Companies featured in many interior decorating magazines offer free swatches of everything from curtain material to mini-blinds, leading amateur decorators to believe that a sample can spark a slew of interior decorating ideas.
Many everyday Americans, however, are finding out that the best interior decorating ideas come from professionals, not from interior decorating magazines. Others don’t want their house to look just like the pages of the interior decorating magazines, but they have a hard time deviating from the mail-order suggestions.
The solution is to hire a professional interior decorator, a field ripe for professionals who can offer interior decorating ideas and help people coordinate and decorate their homes. For those amateur decorators who are confident they could earn a living with their talents, interior design classes are a great place to start.
Many programs now offer online and distance learning interior design classes, making it convenient to get an interior design degree regardless of where you live or whether you already work. Online classes can be taken at almost anytime, making it possible even to work fulltime while you earn your degree.
Working with a real interior decorator almost always will produce better home decorating ideas than a homeowner taking inspiration from an interior decorating catalog. Earning an interior decorating degree will prepare you for a market ripe with customers looking for professional guidance to make their homes beautiful.
