Every interior design career follows a different path. As one interior designer’s career shows, any type of project can help make you successful, from homes to hotels, and you never know what can boost your career in between.

A Career Example

Working in interior design should not mean being pigeonholed. Pursuing variety in your career is easier than it seems. One veteran designer in Florida is a good career example for future interior designers and design students.

Brooke Friedman is an interior designer living in Boca Raton, FL. Among her career qualifications are an interior design degree, certification by the National Council for Interior Design (which allows her to sign and seal construction plans), and board membership with the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).

Her interior design style has been described as “strong” and “practical,” proving that you don’t have to be ultra-modern and different to make your way in design.

A Degree First

While earning her interior design degree, an internship in interior design school provided Ms. Friedman with some early career experience (not to mention qualifications she could apply to entry-level design jobs).

Career Variety

Ms. Friedman was featured on one of HGTV’s design shows and also runs her own firm. One of the best things about her design career is the variety of projects she works on, including:

  • Multi-million dollar private residences
  • Model homes
  • Country clubs
  • Office complexes (including a recent 25,000 square-foot project)

You never know what kind of design job will bring you the most success, so building a background in several design fields and pursuing variety in your career can help you achieve it.
