There is a world of opportunity in commercial interior design especially retail design. Designing to market products and also to protect them from theft is one of the challenges of a commercial interior designer.
Commercial Interior Design
Commercial interior design supports sales. In many commercial buildings from tall office towers to one-room stores in strip malls something is being sold. Commercial interior design must support and enhance this financial goal by generating positive energy and enhancing sales.
In retail settings commercial interior design is also about logistics. Designing a space for foot traffic, merchandising, and theft prevention are concerns of a commercial interior designer.
Retail Interior Design Tips
A recent interior design school student’s study showed that crowded commercial interior design promoted theft. Shoplifters seek cover when stealing retail items and narrow pathways between merchandise provide the cover necessary for theft.
Blind spots on security tapes are another hurdle. Designing open, clearly approachable merchandising stations and wider, straight pathways are interior design recommendations for retail space.
Interior Design School
This study also shows the benefit of interior design school. There are abundant industry opportunities available for interior design school students like internships, externships, studies, and local business partnerships to take advantage of. Majoring in commercial interior design can give students the expertise they need to make a career.
