Commercial Interior Design Shines at Interiors Awards
Known as the Oscars of interior design, the Interiors Awards are bestowed annually upon distinctive and successful designers by a community of professional interior designers. Remarkable commercial interior design from all over the country is showcased at this auspicious event.
The 27th Annual Interiors Awards took place in January of this year in New York, hosted by a number of big name design firms, including Tandus, Luna Textiles, DuPont surfaces, and others. A jury is comprised of professionals from design firms all over the country, spanning a wide range of designers and projects.
The Awards
There are 13 different categories for these Awards, including public interior design, office interior design, and commercial interior design:
- Office (small, mid-size, and large)
- Restaurant (small, large)
- Healthcare
- Education
- Showroom
- Exhibition
- Environmental
This category list is a good example of the wide array of career options in interior design. Maybe your forte is office interior design, and the design of clean, corporate space. Maybe it’s using your creativity to design new hospitals and clinics for the public. Maybe you are best suited for commercial interior design, designing hotels, restaurants, and retail space. Whatever your particular passion within interior design, there are opportunities (and possibly awards later on) for your distinct style.
Designer of the Year
Office interior design firm executive Mark Harbick was this year’s winner of the prestigious 2006 Designer of the Year Award. Mr. Harbick achieved his initial success from office interior design, and now works on a variety of projects. He encourages a creative process that is detached from interior design software, and champions the use of the good old pencil and paper. Whatever his strategy, it earned him the title of Designer of the Year.
Who will be Designer of the Year in years to come? Will it be you?
